11 My Parents – M y parents were both born in Newark, New Jersey. My father grew up during the Great Depression and spent his whole childhood in poverty. His father worked irregularly and the family didn’t have much. He learned responsibility early, having various jobs from the time he was in elementary school with little time for homework.
